Moving into my apartment, I needed curtains, and needed them to be easy, cheap, and involve as few holes in the wall as possible. This is what I ended up with in my office:
Read what I did after the jump.
Supplies:
Tension rods (I needed 2 because I have a double window, and I got them for less than $5 each at Canadian Tire)
Scarves (I got mine at H&M for about $10 each, choose opaque or translucent depending on how much light you want to block)
Sewing gear
I folded my scarves in half and ironed the fold so that I had a nice straight line to follow with my wobbly hand-stitches. Then I sewed across in a straight line to make a tube for the curtain rod to go through, with very loose stitches (about 1 cm long) and...done!
Tension rods are great for hanging light curtains like this because they don't require any holes/tools/damaging of paint.
I originally went to H&M to look for scarves for this purpose because it knew they would have way cooler fabric than the fabric store, and for a good price. Bonus: when I folded them in half they fit my window perfectly, so I had to do zero cutting and zero hemming, and the tension rod allows you to adjust for length as well. Double bonus: when I'm bored of these curtains, it will take about 2 seconds to snip the stitches out and the scarves will be scarves again.
