my go-to meal

This is my go-to meal. When I'm feeling lazy after a long day, I'll come home and make this. It's not the quickest meal as the sweet potatoes take an hour to bake, but it's good because I'll cut up the potatoes and let them bake while I catch up on other things.

Sweet Potato Fries
One medium sweet potato, 1 tbsp of olive oil, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to taste. Slice up sweet potato, toss, and bake at 400 degree celsius for an hour. Flip the fries after 30 mins.

Curry Mayo
Mix 1 tbsp of mayo, 1 tsp of curry powder, a large wedge of lime juice. Add extra mayo, curry powder, or lime if needed.

Open Face Sandwich
You can use any kind of bread you want and any veggies (or meat). I like to do a spinach, tomato, and avocado sandwich. Sometimes I'll add daiya (or cheese) and melt it in the oven when the fries are just about done (10 mins away). I also like sprouts, mushrooms, and hummus on my sandwich if I have those handy.

turning 30

This birthday is a big one! I read this quote awhile ago and realized that it has become my motto this year, and something that I want to keep trying to live up to!

As winter (finally) comes to an end and as I hit this milestone birthday, Id like to share 3 goals I've set for myself, kind of like spring resolutions:

1. Cook at least 1 actual recipe each week. I keep buying cookbooks and then just eating the same boring easy things, despite loving healthy food and loving to cook!

2. Dress like my Pinterest, ie. stop just buying stuff at The Gap because I come across a good sale (not hating on The Gap, but I'd like to have a little more flair in real life!). Lucy is amazing at doing this!

3. Remember that I LIKE doing things like running, cooking, blogging, reading (other than textbooks, and even textbooks, too). Since starting school again in September, I've been so busy that even fun things feel like chores sometimes.

and happy birthday to any other March babies out there!

succulent garden

A while ago, I did a post about DIY spray painted flower pots and said I was going to plant an herb garden. I did end up planting the herb garden, and the herbs actually grew for a while but then they all died when I went away and forgot to get anyone to water them for me. So I decided to go low key and plant a succulent garden instead. Succulents are awesome because they are so hard to kill and so pretty. Perfect for me.

This is my dead basil plant. R.I.P. Basil.

style obsession: new balance sneakers

Image sources: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

After months of scrolling through Pinterest and admiring the casual-chic New Balance + any outfit ever styles, I bit the bullet and bought myself a pair of these bad boys. Not to mention, they were incredibly hard to find during my travels, or in my size, and few places will ship to Canada

Soon to be a proud owner.

new orleans p.1

I recently wandered to New Orleans. It was an amazing trip and exceeded my expectations. There was just so much culture and music and art everywhere. Oh, and the food- absolutely delicious. Bonus, I ended up catching the beginning of Mardi Gras!

sunday morning fun

One of the joys of Sunday mornings is engaging in Sunday brunch fun.  One of my favourite restaurants in town is Edna. They consistently have delicious foods but I had yet to attend their brunch. But today, I actually took the day off work [to study for finals] but I had to supply my brain with energy before I could get down to it. So I went out to brunch, natch (priorities). If you are ever in the neighbourhood, I would highly recommend going to Edna's. The brunch did not disappoint.

social print studio

Social Print Studio is a company that prints your Instagram photos. I take a lot of photos using Instagram and thought it'd be nice to capture those memories in a physical format, so I ordered some mini books from Social Print Studio. I really liked the books, and will probably consider ordering from them again in the future. They also do larger format prints and gifts as well. I really like these concrete block displays:
