I've been painting these wooden boxes I acquired at Michael's to use as personalized gift boxes. All you need is masking tape, toll paint, and a paint brush.
Hi Rosemary, This is a simple project that allows you to use your creative imagination. You can tape the box however way you like it, or with a pattern (try squares, triangles, grid, etc.), and paint the space without tape and peel away the tape once the paint is fully dry. If you want to try using several different colours, you can wait until the first color fully dries and carefully tape over it and paint the leftover exposed wood. I personally prefer the wood contrast. You can buy the wooden boxes at Michael's or the Dollarama or any craft store along with some toll paints and a paint brush. The project should cost less than $10. Hope that helps!
Thanks for sharing your awesome works. You should also prepare all the necessary paints and tools needed.

Nice tips. I like wood working so much and I offten make some simple things for my family. But I'm not good at painting. So I didn't paint anything.
